RSS Feeds

What is a RSS feed?

RSS is a system that allows users to subscribe to their favorite websites. Using RSS, webmasters can put their content into a standardized format, which can be viewed and organized through RSS-aware software or automatically conveyed as new content on another website.

Programs known as feed readers or aggregators (usually browsers or email applications) can check a list of feeds on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that they find. This way a user does not need to visite a website to check for new content.

Why is it useful?

To stay up to date with the latest content of a website, you don't need to visit the website on a regular basis, you just watch the RSS feed in your feed reader, which automatically informs you of new additions to the website or calendar.

How does it work?

This depends entirely on what feed reader you are using. The latest browsers will pick up a feed on a webpage and display one of these icons. Rss icon XML text icon Rss text icon. If you click on one of them, you will be given a choice to add the feed to your feed reader. For more instructions please consult your feed reader.
