Philippe Corbisier

Headshot of Philippe
			Corbisier
CV

Philippe Corbisier studied during his PhD thesis the importance of mitochondria in cellular ageing process. The mitochondrial oxidative stress and metabolic state were demonstrated as being a key factor in the cellular degenerative process. He joined the Nuclear Research Centre (Mol, Belgium) in 1990 to study the molecular regulation of heavy metal resistance in soil bacteria. Classical molecular genetics techniques were learned during a Post-Doc in the University of Illinois in Chicago. The identification, sequences and regulation of metal resistances were studied and this fundamental research generated practical applications such as the development of bacterial biosensors for the detection of bioavailable heavy metals ions and genotoxic compounds at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research. Since 2001, he joined the Joint Research Centre (Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements) of the European Commission in Geel as scientific Officer. He is in charge of the development of DNA-based Reference Material used for the quantification of genetically modified food and feed and coordinated also the production and stabilisation of Quality Control Material for Genetic testing. He supervises the biotechnology laboratories as laboratory manager and bio safety coordinator. He is responsible for all the analysis performed in the biotechnology laboratories under ISO 17025 for the certification of genetically modified organisms and clinical Certified Reference Materials. Philippe Corbisier is a member of the ENGL and participates actively in CCQM studies under the umbrella of the BIPM.
