She graduated as bio-engineer and has worked at the Centre of Human Genetics, University of Leuven, Belgium in the field of Molecular Cancer Genetics. She received her PhD in Medical Science for the work on 12p translocations in leukaemia. She is now actively involved in that part of EuroGentest working on quality management and accreditation/certification of genetic testing, together with Prof Dequeker and Dr Morris.
She is doing research on the current situation in genetic testing services throughout Europe, concerning quality assurance and implementing a quality system. In addition, she works in collaboration with international networks to create a comprehensive European database of genetic services, which will be an essential resource for genetics and health-care professionals world-wide, as well as, for patients and families. Furthermore, she assists in developing and standardizing clinical and analytical validation of diagnostic tests and in introducing novel methods and technologies present on the market. She also contributes to a part of the External Quality Assessment scheme for Cystic Fibrosis combined with the research on the use of synthetic control samples in molecular diagnostics.
