To search for a laboratory:
- Enter a keyword in the input box next to ‘full text search'.
- Select the search button to bring back the results that match your keyword or sentence to any field listed below.
- If a match was found, a results table will appear with a limit of 100 laboratories. When more than 100 laboratories are found only the first 20 are shown.
- You can sort the results using the column heads (initially it will sort on the quality criteria).
- For more information about a specific laboratory, click on the 'details' link. This is only possible for registered users who are logged in to the website. You can register here.
Searching Fields
The search engine looks by default in the following fields:
- laboratory name,
- institution,
- department,
- address,
- country,
- city,
- any contact person associated with the laboratory,
- diseases the laboratory tests for,
- the EUGT number,
- EQA schemes and providers,
- accreditation standards and bodies,
- licensing organizations.
You can limit your results by using any of the filters below the input box.
Initially the search engine searches on the fields listed above; but you can limit this to search for example on a disease, a contact person, EUGT number, laboratory or institution name.
-
Disease: Enter a keyword in the input box next to 'Disease'. If you click the search button again, it will bring back the labs that test for this disease.
-
Note: the search engine will bring back a selection list of diseases when more than one disease matches your keyword. Click a disease in the list to bring back the labs that offers a test for this disease.
-
Country: Selecting an item from the dropdown list next to 'Country'will bring back only the results for that country.
-
City: Enter a keyword in the input box next to 'City'. If you click the search button again, it will bring back the labs in that city. The cities are all in English. e.g. Genève will be shown as Geneva.
-
Laboratory/institution: Enter a keyword in the input box next to Laboratory/Institution. If you click the search button again, the search engine will only bring back results that match the keyword to the laboratory name or institution name.
-
Professional: Enter a keyword in the input box next to 'Professional'. If you click the search button again, the search engine will only bring back results that match the keyword to the first or last name of any professional linked to the laboratory.
-
EUGT ID: Enter a keyword in the input box next to 'EUGT ID'. If you click the search button again, the search engine will only bring back results that match the EUGT ID of a laboratory.
-
Accreditation body: Selecting an item from the dropdown list next to 'Accreditation body' will bring back only the labs that are accredited with this body.
-
EQA scheme: Selecting an item from the dropdown list next to 'EQA scheme' will bring back only the labs that participate in that EQA scheme.
-
EQAprovider: Selecting an item from the dropdown list next to ‘EQAprovider' will bring back only the labs that participate in an EQA scheme of that provider.
-
Accreditation standard: Selecting an item from the dropdown list next to ‘Accreditation standard' will bring back only the labs that have an accreditation according to the selected standard.
- Licensing body: Selecting an item from the dropdown list next to ‘licensing body' will bring back only the labs that have a licensing of the selected licensing body.
You can also filter according to quality criteria. You can check one or more options.
- ‘Accredited', will only bring back labs, which are fully accredited.
- 'Accreditation underway' , will only bring back labs, which are in the process of accreditation.
- ‘Licensed', will only bring back labs, which are fully licensed.
- 'Licensing underway' , will only bring back labs, which are in the process of getting their license(s).
- 'participating in EQA' , will only bring back labs, which participate in at least one EQA scheme. Checking licensed will only bring back labs that have a license for medical genetics and licensing underway will only bring back labs that are in the process of obtaining a license.
- 'has quality manager' , will only bring back labs, which have a quality manager.
A keyword can be a word, part of a word or a sentence. If a sentence is entered it will try to match the entire sentence. So searching for 'Genetics unit' will only bring back labs that have 'Genetics unit' in their name and not 'Unit genetics'.
Case sensitivity
The search engine is case insensitive. This means keywords like Genetics and GENETICS, will bring back exactly the same results.
Wildcards
The search engine automatically puts wildcards in front of and at the end of each keyword or sentence. This ensures searching for e.g. Londo, will bring back all laboratories in London.
By default, results are sorted by quality assurance criteria. These are ordered according to the following criteria:
- Accreditation
- Participation in EQA
- Licensing
The criteria are additive, so that for example labs which are accredited and participate in EQA appear before labs which are accredited but participate in no genetics EQA schemes.
The QAu criteria are identified by the symbols:
- ■ Accredited laboratories
- ▲ EQA participation
- ○ Licensed laboratories
The solid symbols imply data that has been fully validated by EUGT (See: How the validation was done).
Results can be sorted in other ways, by selecting the headings:
- Choices are: EUGT ID, Quality, Country, City, Laboratory, Institution, Lab director.
- Selecting one of these items will sort the results in ascending alphabetical order; reselecting it will sort the results in descending alphabetical order.
When you enter the details page for a laboratory you get several blocks of information.
- First you have the laboratory contact details. Address, specialties, laboratory, name, phone, fax, email, website, status and EUGT ID
- Second block contains the laboratory director, department director (if he/she exists), the quality manager (if he/she exists) and eventually more contact persons.
- Third block is about the testing activities. Here you find a link to the Orphanet page. Simply click the link 'the Orphanet website' and it will take you to the details of the laboratory as they are in Orphanet. This link opens a new window.
- Finally, you have the Quality Management data. This can contain three tables:
- Accreditation: all the accreditations for this laboratory
- EQA: all EQA participations
- Licensing (e.g. Agrément): any licensing this laboratory also has.
