One of the aims of this technology-platform is to improve the international exchange of information on validation and implementation of genetic testing. In particular, we would like to generate clear guidelines, validation files and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for genetic tests and limit the duplication of efforts and reduce the costs for the introduction to the genetic services. Moreover, the EuroGentest NoE will share this information with the scientific community. Distribution of all this information should enable other laboratories to quickly and accurately introduce novel techniques for diagnostic purposes
In that respect, we recently initiated the setup of a Technique-database that compiles an inventory on existing and new technologies. The database provides details on all technical issues, type of samples, equipment required, possible applications clinical relevance and many other features and will also serve as a link to obtain further information on issues like the technique, related companies, IPRs and relevant SOPs. Currently this Technique-database is accessible for all diagnostic laboratories that are registrated at EuroGentest.
Several companies have already collaborated with this EuroGentest- platform, including Idaho Technology, Applied Biosystems, MRC Holland and Roche Diagnostics (for more see Satellite meetings at our webpage). These companies are offered to present and discuss their novel developments at an early stage to an expert panel of molecular genetic diagnostic laboratories. The feedback from these interactions enables them to improve both the technique and, if applicable, the software analysis tools for diagnostic use. At present, we are performing several evaluation studies of promising new techniques (see topic, Current activities). Considering the important number of companies and academic research laboratories that contribute to the development of emerging technologies, it is important for EuroGentest to assemble and monitor all research activities that have a strong potential to improve current molecular genetic and cytogenetic tests. Therefore, an ongoing comprehensive overview of all emerging technical developments should improve and accelerate the introduction of relevant new genetic test assays into diagnostic laboratories.
